THE SPLASH & DASH

I have a confession to make: I used to HATE running.

I am being absolutely, positively serious! I loved to lift weights, dance, and do other forms of exercise... but running was out of the question.

in fact, if i had told my own mother that i had gone running, she would have laughed in my face. that is how much i hated it.

 and then... my life changed.

In January, my roommate and I decided to start running in order to prepare for a half-marathon later this year. At first it was awful and I was compelled to run due to my dear roommate's persistence; but then something happened that I never thought would. I started to like running.

As crazy as it sounds, it is true! Running relaxed me in a way I never believed possible... I even began running without listening to any music. just me and my thoughts on the track.

Some of you may think: "dang, this girl is craaaaaazy!" While others might agree with the freedom that running brings.
IF YOU FEEL THAT FREEDOM...
COME PARTICIPATE IN THE BYU BIATHLON or 5k run!
We have affectionately termed this event:
THE SPLASH & DASH

The Biathlon includes Beginner, Standard, Elite and Team

Beginner $10 ..... ¼ mile swim, 3K
                                         Standard $12..... ½ mile swim, 5K
                                         Elite $15..... 1 mile swim, 10K Run
                                         Team $20..... 1 mile swim, 10K Run
                                         5k Run $10..... 5K
**The 5K run is for all ages and abilities! So bring friends, kiddos, grandma/grandpa, etc. and come have some fun!**

One of the best parts about the Splash & Dash is..... Prizes for the top 3 (men and women) in each division! Which rocks. No joke. Oh and did I mention that you get an amazing t-shirt if you register!

So, say you have a friend that goes to UVU... or an uncle that lives in Pleasant Grove... and you DESPERATELY want them to run with you. HAVE NO FEAR! You do not need to be a BYU student to participate in the Splash & Dash.

Tickets sold at the BYU Wilkinson Center Information Desk.  You will need to come in to register for the race [in order to get the time/heat that you want!] However, if you are registering for the 5k, you can come the morning-of and sign-up then! This is for all you procrastinators out there! C:

Things A Girl Will Say If You Take Her To BIG BAND NIGHT...

There are a few things in this life that a woman simply appreciates more than the rest...

One of those things is when her man remembers to do something romantic for Valentine's Day!

You might be reading  this, sweating like a pig and  thinking, "I don't do romantic. I am terrible at being suave. How am I gonna get out of this V-day?"

Fellas, good news: You CAN be romantic! You CAN be suave! You CAN be the tall, dark, and handsome man that a woman dreams of (even if you physically aren't).

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret... women don't need all the stereotypical things. All a woman wants is to feel appreciated and know that you have been thinking of her.

One way to do that is to...
TAKE HER TO BIG BAND NIGHT!
Saturday, February 11th, 2012
6:30-11:00pm
treat your woman to
DINNER,
LIVE JAZZ MUSIC,
and
a WHOLE LOT OF DANCING
at BYU's own
 BIG BAND NIGHT!

If you do, there are some things that your woman might say... a few of them are listed below:

1. "Wow, that is so romantic! <3"
2. "You are such a sweetheart! I am so lucky to have you."
3. "A dinner, dance AND a show! That will be so wonderful!"
4. "Wow, honey! That is perfect for Valentines Day!"
5. "Oh, you remembered Valentine's Day!"
6. "You are simply the sweetest!"
7. "How did you know that this is exactly what I wanted?"
8. "Does that mean we get to dance all night? Honey, you are so sweet!"
9. "Oh, I love the 1940s! Can we dress up?"
10. "I am SO excited! Saturday can't come quick enough!"

So... Whether you are taking your wife, girlfriend, or asking out the adorable girl you have seen wandering around the Harold B. Lee Library... rest assured knowing that you have this Valentine's Day in the BAG if you take your girl to Big Band Night!

Tickets are $20 with a BYU student ID
(remember: that includes dinner, live entertainment, and dancing all night with your honey!)
Purchase tickets at the WSC INFO DESK
and look on the BYU Events Team Facebook page for more information.

Give your girl the gift of BIG BAND NIGHT
and I bet she will be the happiest girl in the world.

WAR DRAFT: The War on Winter

Calling all BYU Citizens: We are officially initiating the draft for the War on Winter.

United against a common enemy: Winter. Though the foe is strong and the cold is rough, we can and will come out victorious.

All cadets are expected to report to the WILK [on BYU campus] on Friday, January 20th between the hours of 8-11:30pm.

As for the matter of expected uniform, plan to wear clothes in which you can practice exercise drills on the inflatables, work on your target shooting & evasive techniques in the laser tag arena, and then go dance the winter blues away.

The registration fee will be $3/cadet. But never fear-- those $3 get you quite a few special privileges.

You can:

- Take Facebook-worthy pictures in our PHOTO BOOTH

- Watch thrilling WARREN-MILLER FILMS

- Eat Sugar'n'Spice goodies, Jamba Juice smoothies, and Taco Bell... ANYTHING for 10% off ALL NIGHT, BABY!

- Show off your skills to your date (or potential dates) in PING-PONG and BOARD GAMES!

- Make those ladies swoon over your silky-smooth voice singing KARAOKE

- DANCE like no one's watching!

- Practice your NINJA SKILLS on the INFLATABLES

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand

- Ward off the date-stealing competition in LASER TAG!

Let's face it, Cadet- you need the training and WE NEED YOU!
